what are peer reviews?
A
involve piece of psychological research being scrutinised by small group of usually 2 or 3 experts (peers) in particular field

why do we use peer reviews?
A
- needed before piece of work can be published to validate its accuracy/validity, suggest improve
- any problem areas for improvement are highlighted as necessary

criticisms of peer reviews (4)
A
- not unbias-> research world is small so researcher and research is known by most
- plagiarism-> reviewers accused of this + not accepting work so own can be published first
- ability to publish in control of elites-> dont like change/revolutionary ideas so reject which dont agree with
- takes lot of time-> slow process
