What is the purpose of peer review
Helps allocate research funding
Validates quality/relevance and accuracy of research
Allows for improvement
Advantages of peer review
Helps establish validity to prevent criticism
Reviewer remains anonymous to make review honest (reviewer may be inexperienced)
Disadvantages of peer review
Journalists may ignore research that isn’t attention grabbing and publish/pay attention to interesting, conflicting research(publication bias)
Reviewers may wrongly criticise rival research
