Mathematical content Flashcards
What is nominal data
Categorical data
What is statistical testing
Way of determining if the null hypothesis should be accepted or rejected
What is the sign test used for
Used for nominal data
Used for repeated measures design data
Test of difference
What is the accepted probability in psychology
Accepted value is 5% (0.05)
How do you carry out the sign test
1) Use + or - to indicate difference between scores
2) Calculate S value (Less frequent sign)
3) Calculate N value (Total signs)
4) Find critical S value (Use sign table, 0.05 probability and DF/N)
A one tailed hypothesis = Directional
A two tailed hypothesis = Non directional
4) See if results are statistically significant
To see if results are significant, calculated value(s) must be less than or equal to critical value(S)
