What is the privacy ethical issue
Participants have the right to control info about them

Participants should remain anonymous

Participants must be able to leave at any time/withdraw their data
Remind participants during briefing/debriefing that they can leave/withdraw data
What is the protection from harm ethical issue/how to deal with it
Participants must not experience extreme physical/mental harm
Can be dealt with through debriefing/counselling
What is the informed consent ethical issue/how to deal with it
Participants give permission to take part, knowing the aims of the study
Can be dealt with through:
Retrospective consent - P’s asked for consent during debriefing
Prior general consent - P’s give consent to variety of studies including deception studies
Presumptive consent - P’s Researcher gains consent from similar groups of people
What is the deception ethical issue/how to deal with it
Participants aren’t mislead/wrongly informed about study
Can be dealt with through debriefing if participants are deceived
What is cost benefit analysis
You assess the benefits compared to the costs when breaking ethical issues to get good results
