Abdominal pain
Urinary frequency (UTI)
Respiratory distress
Limp
How do you calculate GCS?
eye opening: 4=spontaneous 3=to verbal stimule 2=to pain 1=none
verbal: 5=oriented 4=confused 3=inappropriate 2=incomprehensible 1=none
movement: 6=obeys commands 5=localizes to pain 4=withdraws from pain 3=flexion to pain 2=extension to pain 1=none
What are the differential diagnoses for acute onset of stridor?
-Foreign body aspiration
-Foreign body ingestion
-Infectious etiology
(Viral croup, Bacterial Tracheitis, Epiglottitis)
Should you ever put numbing drops in a perforated otitis media?
NO!! Never do that!
In a peds pt who experienced a significant mechanism of injury and is persistently vomiting, what should be considered?
Head injury (epidural hemorrhage)
What is the treatment for croup?
The majority of infants and children may be treated with a short course of oral steriods (Dexamethasone (Decadron))
What is the treatment for otitis media? First line, second line and chronic?
-First Line antibiotics:
Amoxicillin (Low vs. High Dose)
Amoxicillin-Clavulanate (Augmentin)
Azithromycin (Zithromax)
-Second-line:
Cephalosporins
Azithromycin (Zithromax)
-Chronic or Recurring:
Third-generation cephalosporin
Referral to otolaryngology
