what is atopic triad
- atopic dermatitis
- asthma
- allergic rhinitis
clinical features of atopic dermatitis by age
infants/toddlers: - eczematous plaques on cheeks, forehead, scalp, extensor surfaces older children - lichenified - plaques on flexural areas adults - lichenification of flexural region - hands and perorbital regions very common
what are excoriations
little opening/breaks in skin
- 2ndry to scratching
- signal itch
complications of atopic dermatitis
- bacterial infections secondary
- secondary viral infections
Tx for atopic dermatitis
- moisturize
- topical steroids
- calcineurin inhibs
what causes molluscum contagium
- poxvirus
- self-limted - 1-2 years
what does MC look like
- small discrete, flesh colored-to-translucent, domes shaped umbilicted papules
Tx of MC
destructive
what is a wheal
edematous papules
what is urticaria
- hives
- IgE mediated skin disease
- lasts less than 24 hours
causes of acute urticaria

what is pupura
- unblanchable blood vessels
- signals small vessel vasculitis
- can have bullae/ulceration
- classified by vessel size
what is henoch-schonlein purpura
- immune mediated IgA deposition in vessels
- 50% preceded by URIs
tetrad of HSP
- palpable purpura
- arthritis or arthralgia
- abdo pain
- renal disease
what is infantile hemangioma
- vascular tumors
- can be superficial, deep, or combined
- present in the first few weeks of life and grow rapidly
course of infantile hemangioma
benign and will self heal
- can use lasers to reduce them
