Infant who is difficult to manage or fussy despite being otherwise healthy. Defined as three or more hours of uncontrollable crying or fussing at least three times a week for at least three weeks. May show signs of pain or discomfort. Gassy.

  • peaks 3-4 weeks of age
  • possible causes: immature digestive system sensitive to certain food proteins, immature nervous system, mismatch of the infants temperament with those of the caregivers.
  • usually resolves around 3-4 months
  • TX: support! Can try simethicone, Aceta medicine drops or switching to a hypoallergenic/soy formula.

What age are Temper tantrums most common? What should You instruct parents to do?

A

1 - 3 years of age. Acknowledge the child’s ones during a temper tantrum and act calmly when handling negative Haviar‘s to avoid reinforcement. It’s important to ignore attention seeking tantrums and not give into demands. Predictable home environment and consistent routines and rules will help prevent these.
