What is a pedicure?
A treatment performed on a person that will reduce or remove unwanted calluses, excess cuticle around the toes and make the feet feel soft and look groomed
How often should a client come in to maintain results?
1x a month
What are the benefits of pedicure?
Relief of minor foot conditions
Improved circulation
Improved condition of nails and feet
Feet will be soft and smooth
Attractive appearance
Feeling of well-being
What is the one and only foot problem estheticians can treat?
Ingrown nails
How do estheticians treat ingrown nails?
The client should come bi-weekly to have the nail cleaned out and a fresh piece of cotton placed under it
You may also trim down the sides of the nail to reduce pressure
If the ingrown mail is infected the client must consult with a physician
Recommend that the client wear open toed or wide shoes until nail is corrected
Examine your clients foot carefully before commencing a treatment. If you see any of the following… refer to a dermatologist
What things may cause you to stop a treatment?
Medical problems Broken skin Bleeding Pus Warts Infections Etc.
If a client has bad calluses or corns you may refer them to a
Chiropodist
What should the toe shape always be?
Square with corners rounded
Ideal toenail length
Where it reaches the end of the flesh line of the toes
Any longer may cause pain, bruising, lifting etc due to banging the nail against furniture or it being bent backwards
What is the pedicure protocol?
Wash hands
Wear gloves inspect the feet
Soak feet for 5-7 minutes
Remove old polish & inspect toes

Remove first foot, dry, inspect for contraindications
Cut, file, buff, apply cream and soak
Repeat on next foot
Push back cuticles, clean free edge, trim cuticles
Scrub foot with exfoliant and foot file
Repeat on next foot
Wash feet of debris
Remove bowl and dry the feet
Apply cuticle oil, lotion and massage
Wipe all nails with polish remover, place tissue in between toes
Apply base, colour coat x2, and top coat
Ways a client can take care of their feet
Wash a thoroughly dry feet daily to prevent infection and odour
Talcum powder keeps feet dry
Avoid tight garments (socks, shoes etc) on the feet to prevent bunions or nail deformations
Avoid heels higher than 5cm (2.5 cm is best for health of feet)
Keep nails shorter especially if you wear closed toed shoes
Recommend using creams and foot files to reduce hard skin
Change socks daily
