What is colic?

A

a syndrome of crying several hours a day, usually in the evening, more than 5 nights a week. During episodes of crying, the baby is difficult to console.

What is an ALTE?

A

An “Apparently Life-Threatening Event” a) freaked parents, b) caregiver describes apnea or resp ∆s, color ∆, muscle tone ∆ (usually limp), and possibly choking or gagging, c) Recovery occurs only after stimulation or resuscitation.

occurs during EXPiration; is reflexive in nature. starts to cry and then suddenly falls silent during expiration. This is followed by a color change

Common toddler fracture that is likely NOT a sign of NAT?

A

spiral fx of tibia, or “Toddler’s fx”, is common in ambulatory children; present with acute onset of limp and refusal to bear weight on one leg. It usually occurs when a toddler falls while twisting, or gets a foot caught and falls while trying to free the foot.
