What age to start vision screening?
3 y/o
What age to start audiometry?
4 y/o
Anticipatory guidance for 3 y/o visit?
Social, Nutrition, Dental, Exercise, Toilet Training, Safety (car seat, overall safety d/t incr r/o injury at this age)
AAPD/AAP rec for first dental visit?
all children should be seen within 6 months of the first tooth eruption or by one year of age (ha, good luck w/ that in Maine)
When should you refer child w/ intoeing?
If not resolved by 4 y/o refer to pedi ortho
Cardiac exam should include
Assessment for pallor/cyanosis, HR, s1/s2, m/r/g AND DON’T FORGET femoral pulses
Safety anticipatory guidance for 2 to 4 y/o?
falls, firearms, fires, burns, poisoning, car/street safety
What ages do you perfrom a screening H/H?
12 months and again at preschool or kindergarten entry
What ages for Pb screening?
12 mos and not again unless risk or high initial screen
DDx of microcytic anemia in kids?
Fe deficiency, thalassemia, chronic disease/inflamm, Pb poisoning and sideroblastic anemia
DDx of normocytic anemia in kids?
acute blood loss, G6PD deficiency, SCD, hereditary spherocytosis, immune hemolytic anemia, renal insuff, transient erythroblastopenia of childhood (TEC)
DDx of macrocytic anemia in kids?
folate deficiency, B12 def, liver dz, hypothyroidism, neoplasms, bone marrow failure syndroms
Most bioavailable sources of iron?
Dried beans, Dried fruits, Eggs (esp yolks), Fe-fortified cereals, Liver, Lean red meat (especially beef), Oysters, Poultry, dark red meat, Salmon, Tuna, Whole grains
Which is worse, ODD or CD?
CD
When ∆ to booster seat?
4’ 9” (142 cm).
