Pediatric Reflexes Flashcards
Asymmetric Tonic Neck Reflex (ATNR) Stimulus and Response
Stimulus: Head turns to one side
Response: Arm/leg on face side extend, arm/leg on scalp side are flexed
Normal age range for ATNR presence
Birth-6 months
Symmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex (STNR) Stimulus and Response
Stimulus: Head flexed or extended
Response: head flexion = arms flex, legs extend
head extends = arms extend, legs flex
(aka arms follow the head, legs do opposite!)
Normal age range for STNR presence
6-8 months
Tonic Labyrinthine Reflex (TLR) Stimulus and Response
Stimulus: position of labyrinth in inner hear reflected by head position
Response: Supine = body and extremities held in extension
Prone = body ane extremities are held in flexion
Normal age range for TLR presence
Birth-6 months
Galant Reflex Stimulus and Response
Stimulus: stroke paraspinals
Response: trunk laterally flexes to side of stimulus
Normal age range for Galant Reflex presence
30 weeks of gestation to 2 months
Palmar Grasp Reflex Stimulus and Response
Stimulus: pressure in palm
Response: flexion of fingers into strong grip
Normal age range for Palmar Grasp Reflex presence
Birth-4 months
Plantar Grasp Reflex Stimulus and Response
Stimulus: Pressure to base of toes
Response: Toe flexion
Normal age range for Plantar Grasp Reflex presence
28 weeks gestation to 9 months (when they typically start standing/walking)
Rooting Reflex Stimulus and Response
Stimulus: touch on cheek
Response: turning head to side of stimulus with mouth open
