measles
rare at any age, takes 8-12 days for sx, 14 days for rash. Prodrome: fever ( 101+), cough, coryza, conjunctivitis, Koplik spots ( white spot).
Day 14: bright red macular papular rash, contagious before rash. Kids look sick.
mumps ( parotitis)
incubation 12-25 days
late winter and spring
pain and welling in front of and below ear
complication: testicuar pain 1 week later.
tx; supportive care with recovery 1-2 weeks

congenital rubella TRIAD: deafness, cataracts, cardiac defects–> deadly
“ blueberry muffin” baby-pupural on rash
Acquired: erythematous rash progressing from head to toes –> self limiting

vesicular, erythematous rash on torso, then face
“ dew drops on a rose petal–> vesicular stage
scabs—> not contagious
Tx: supportive

d/dx: herpangina ( no hand/foot involvement
gingival stomatitis- on lips/ tongue
kawasaki syndrome
“ mucocutaneous lymph node syndrome”
vasculitis
fever > 5 years and 4 of these: conjunctivitis, rash, mucosal change, edema of hands/ feet, cervical adenopahty> 1.5 cm
complications: aneurysm, coronary- tx begins in 1st days
tx: iVIG, ASA
