pe mr brennan fitness and determinants of sport Flashcards
what is submaximal aerobic fitness
the ability to maintain a % of your Vo2 max for a prolonged period of time.
what is maximal aerobic fitness
the maximum amount of oxygen that you can use in a min eg.Vo2 max
what is exercise economy
the energy required to move
what is anaerobic power
this is the fastest rate at which ATP can be produced anaerobically during an activity
what is anaerobic capacity
the amount of energy obtained from anaerobic sources eg. ATP-PC breakdown of phosphocreatine in a single bout of exercise.
what is maximum speed
the time taken to move a body through a movement over a predetermined distance or speed.
what are the tests that test for maximal aerobic fitness
gas analysis, multi stage fitness test, yoyo intermittent test, cooper run, queens college step test.
what are the tests that test for anaerobic power
sergeant jump test, margaria kalamen stair test, Illinois agility test.
what are the tests to test for submaximal aerobic
OBLA/ lactate sampling which is measured in mmol/l
what are the tests to test for exercise economy
gas analysis
what are the tests to test for anaerobic
Wingate test, maximal accumulated O2 deficit, RAST test (repeat anaerobic sprint test, Cunningham and Faulkner
what are tests to test for maximum speed
30m sprint tests or anything <100m
describe the protocol for the Wingate test
the assistant weighs the athlete in kg, the athlete will then warm up for 10 mins, whilst they are warming up the assistant calculates the resistance that goes on the flywheel which is done by (weight x 0.8). when this is done the assistant says go and lets the athlete peddle for 3 seconds before applying the resistance then the athlete peddles as fast as they can for 30 seconds, after the 30 seconds the assistant then records the revolutions on the flywheel in 5
second intervals.
the equipment that is needed for this is, a bicycle ergometer, weighing scales, stop watch and assistant.
