What is PCR ?

1) Polymerase Chain reaction
2) Means by which DNA replication can be carried out artificially in labs.
3) However, it can only replicate rather short segments of DNA.

By producing huge number of these DNA segments, Scientist can study and analyze DNA.
1) Used in forensic situations when only limited amount of DNA has been recovered at crime scene .

what is Taq polymerase ?
A
1) Enzyme discovered from a bacterium called “Thermus aquaticus” . This bacteria naturally occurs in hot springs
2) This enzyme is stable at high temperatures.
3) It is basically DNA polymerase
4) Discovered around 1960’s
