PC-21 Multi Function Displays (MFD) Flashcards
What is the purpose of the MFD?
To allow the aircrew to visualize and select the different aircraft and mission system data.
What type of information do the MFDs show?
- Aircraft system status
- Tactical navigation
- Synthetic weapon system information
What is responsible for generating the data for the MFDs?
The mission computer
Are the two MFDs in each cockpit identical?
Yes
What types of data can be displayed on the MFDs?
- Status information for various systems
- Tactical information for various systems
- Alert and checklist information
- Simulate stores management and selection jettison
- Maintenance data
Are the MFDs required to display primary flight data?
No
What type of technology are the MFDs based on?
Active Matrix Liquid Crystal Display (AMLCD)
How many backlights are there?
Two, one for day and for night.
Do the keys on the bottom row of MFD have the same function at all times?
Yes
Do the MFDs receive their electrical power from different sources?
Yes
Where does the right MFD in each cockpit receive its power from?
The Mission Bus (which gets its power from the BATT BUS).
Where does the left MFD in each cockpit receive its power from?
GEN 1 BUS
What switch powers the MFDs?
MC/HUD
What occurs with the MFDs when the instructor switch in the front cockpit is set to solo?
Rear cockpit MFDs are de-energized.
What generates information for the MFD displays?
The mission computer (MC)
What switch allows the instructor the possibility to decouple the MFDs?
The MFD DCPL switch in the rear cockpit.
What can the instructor then do WRT the MFDs?
Deny the student access to specific display information and degrade their information.
What does the castle switch on the control column allow the pilot to do?
Swap the MFD screens when pushing left.
When connected to an external power source on the ground, do both MFDs display when MC switch is selected?
Yes
When on internal power and MC switch it selected, are both MFDs operational?
- No, only right one powered by the BATT BUS
- Left hand MFD comes on when GEN 1 BUS is powered.
What occurs when the cyan function is boxed on the MFD?
It has been selected
What occurs if the cyan function is grey?
It is not available.
What are the 6 groups of MFD pages?
1) Aircraft Systems (SYS)
2) Warnings (WARN)
3) Navigation (NAV)
4) Instructor (INST)
5) Operations (OPS)
6) Maintenance (MAINT)
When are Instructor and Maintenance pages available?
- Instructor available when MFDs have been decoupled
- Maintenance pages available only when A/C is on the ground.
What occurs when a red warning caption becomes active and the master SYS page is not displayed on the right MFD?
The right MFD automatically changes to the master SYS page.
What systems pages are provided on the master system page?
