4) DME transceivers
5) TACAN
6) Attention Getters
7) Aural Warnings
8) Intercom
What does the MC provide as a general design philospohy?
Provide a tactical training environment for the student pilot and a tactical training tool for the instructor.
When does the MC load a particular mission?
When the PMM is inserted into the PMM-Cockpit bay and the desired mission has been selected.
What is continually recorded during flight?
1) MFD display data
2) Navigation data
3) Systems data
4) HUD video picture
5) All audio
What are the principle units used by the Mission Computer?
1) MC
2) UFCPs
3) MFDs
4) HOTAS
5) PMM
6) RIOCs
7) MC/HUD switch
Where is the mission computer installed?
In the avionics bay
What is the main control for the mission computer?
UFCP
What are HOTAS pilot inputs provided to the MC through what?
RIOCs
What are the three positions for the MC/HUD switch and what do they do?
1) OFF = MC, HUD and HUDR are switched off.
2) MC = Mission system is powered, HUD and HUDR are off
3) MC/HUD = Mission system, HUD and HUDR are powered.
How many RIOCs are there and what do they do?
4
- They concentrate data and pass it directly to the MC for processing
- They also receive data from the MC for onwards processing.
How are the UFCPs connected to the MC?
Through the RS 422 BUS
What provides a high capacity data link between the MC and the PMM?
The MISSION BUS
What is the Input Output BUS?
1553 data bus that provides a high integrity datalink between the RIOCs, transponder and the MC.
What are the MFDs connected to the MC through?
1) RS 422 and DVI buses.
What powers the RIOCS and the MC/HUD switch?
BATT BUS
What powers the MC?
The Mission BUS via the BATT BUS
What powers the UFCPs?
The Mission BUS via the BATT BUS
What powers the right hand MFDs?
The Mission BUS via the BATT BUS
What powers the PMM?
The Mission BUS via the BATT BUS
What bus powers the left hand MFDs?
GEN 1 BUS
If starting on internal power, will the left hand MFDs be powered with engine not running?
No, they only come online when engine has started.
What will be displayed if any RIOC should fail?
- A grey advisory is given on the MFD.
- However, there may be further amber indications depending on the failures that come down from the RIOC failure.
What does RIOC 1 do?
Interfaces and provides functions mainly for the front cockpit controls.
What will be affected if RIOC 1 fails?
1) Front cockpit HOTAS non flying related functions
2) Red crosses indications on MFD HYD, MFD ELEC, MFD ENG, PFD and EMD
3) AOA scale is removed on the HUD.
What does RIOC 2 interface with?
Provides functions mainly for rear cockpit controls
What occurs if RIOC 2 fails?
1) Front cockpit HOTAS non flying related functions
2) Red crosses indications on MFD HYD, MFD ELEC, MFD ENG, PFD and EMD
3) AOA scale remains but numeric readout is occulted.
What does RIOC 3 do?
It interfaces and provides functions mainly for VHF1/UHF1 radios, oxygen system management and AOA
What will fail if RIOC 3 fails?
1) COMM 1 tuning
2) Some indications on MFD HYD, MFD ELEC, MFD ECS, PFD, EMD
3) All AOA indications on HUD are occulted.
In a RIOC 3 failure, are EICAS oxygen alters available?
No
What does RIOC 4 do?
Interfaces with and provides functions mainly for the VHF2/UHF2 radios, the voice callout and TAD safety monitors.
What will be affected if RIOC 4 fails?
1) COMM 2 tuning
2) Displays on various MFD displays
3) All AOA indications ARE STILL displayed.
Is all essential data still available if MC fails?
Yes but tactical training function of aircraft is lost.
What is the MC the main processor for?
1) Integration
2) Processing
3) Generation/distribution of mission data
What are the dumb displays and control heads for the MC?
UFCP and MFDs
