Where is the brightness control for the HUD?
Mounted on the UFCP.
Where is the HUD Symbol Generator (HSG) located?
In the avionics bay
What supplies signals to the HUD?
Hud Signal Generator (HSG)
What is the HUD signal generator connected to?
The MC
What does the Hud signal generator do?
- Processes data from the aircraft systems in accordance with the instructions from the MC and then generators the HUD symbology.
- Sends copy of signal and video to PMM.
What is displayed on the HUDR?
- Displays an image of the outside world generated from the video camera in the front cockpit
- Overlays HUD symbiology ontop of that video camera.
How are the HUD, HUDR and HUDR powered?
- HSG and HUDR are powered by 28V DC from the GEN 1 BUS.
- The HUD is powered by a direct supply from the HSG only.
How can the HUD be selected through different modes?
- Through UFCP switches
- Through HOTAS switches
What are the different HUD modes?
- NAV - en-route NAV or approach Nav
- Air to ground mode
- Air to air mode
What does the Flight Path Marker (FPM) show?
- The true flight path of the aircraft
- Also known as the velocity vector.
What does the horizontal distance between the FPM and the CDM show?
Drift angle.
When is climb dive marker displayed by default?
When groundspeed > 60 kts
What does the CDM indicate?
The true representation of the flight path in pitch.
What would you read off of to indicate the aircraft climb or dive angle?
The CDM against the Climb Dive Ladder (CDL)
What is the PRS and how can it be selected on/off?
- Pitch Reference Symbol
- Only available in NAV mode
- Can be selected on/off through UFCP
- Replaces CDM marker.
What is the Climb Dive Ladder (CDL)?
Provides a reference of the climb or dive angle when read in conjunction with the CDM.
When is the Climb Dive Ladder a pitch ladder?
When CDM is caged and the PRS is displayed.
What shows the aircraft’s current heading on the HUD?
By a lubber line
What does an inverted triangle pointer indicated?
The selected heading
What does the inverted T pointer indicate?
The current ground track.
How can the HUD be referenced to TRUE or MAGNETIC
Through PFD switch.
Is the airspeed shown below 40 KIAS on the HUD?
No
When is Mach number displayed on the HUD? When is it removed?
- When mach number increases through 0.40 it displays
- Removed when mach number reduces through 0.35
How can TAS, GS or KIAS be changed on HUD?
Through PFD Bezel
What barometric setting is the displayed HUD altitude based off of?
The front PFD barometric setting.
What are the limits of the angle of attack scale ON hud?
-5 TO 30
What is AOA scale displayed on the HUD?
When landing gear is selected down.
What is the scale of the vertical speed reference bar?
250 ft/min for smaller lines
1000 ft/min for larger lines
What controls the appearance of the VSI on the HUD?
UFCP
- OFF - VSI is never displayed
- ON - VSI is always displayed
- AUTO - the VSI is only displayed when the landing gear is selected down and disappears hen the landing gear is selected up.
What on the HUD gives an indication of aircraft acceleration or decelleration?
Power chevrons relative to climb dive marker.
What is radar altitude resolution > or < 200 ft?
< 200 ft to 1 ft
> 200 ft to 10 ft
When is HT value displayed on the HUD?
- When it has been set initially
- When the RA is below the HT
What displays when the AP is engaged?
Asterisk
Is a caution displayed on HUD if A/C is over g’ed?
No
What is available on the HUD when MC is selected as the primary NAV source?
Steer point diamond.
What does an E or an L next to the time in the bottom right hand corner of the HUD indicate?
Either Early or Late Time on target.
What does the speed carrot mean?
The speed that should be flown to get to time on target.
What indications are shown on the HUD when ILS 1/ILS 2 are shown on the HUD?
- Localizer indications
- Glideslope indications
- Flight Direction (FD) box
- Excessive deviation arrows.
What are the two declutter levels available in the NAV mode?
- Through UFCP
2. By pressing the PCL weapon mode switch to toggle through DCL OFF, DCL 1 or DCL 2 levels.
How are the HUD formats modified or selected through?
Through UFCP
Does the HUD show EICAS or DWP indications?
No
What does an amber CHECK NAV annunciation mean on the MFD?
Inertial Reference System failure
What will occur if there is an air data computer failure?
- Airspeed
- Altitude
- Mach
What occurs if there is an engine flameout?
Electrical power is removed from the HUD and no symbology is displayed anymore
Should the HUD be used if a data failure is apparent?
No
