PC-21 Alerting System Flashcards
What are the main components to PC-21 alert system?
- Attention Getters
- DWP
- Engine Indicating and Crew Alerting System (EICAS)
- Audio Management Unit (AMU)
- Test Controls
What does the EICAS do?
- The Engine Indicating and Crew Alerting System displays the alerts in the correct context prioritises them and assists the aircrew to carry out the correct procedures.
What is the purpose of the attention getters?
Inform the aircrew that a new red warning or amber caution has been generated
How many captions does the DWP have and when do they illuminate?
- 25 red, amber or green captions
- The captions illuminate to indicate either that a malfunction has occur or for green captions, that a system is operating.
What does the EICAS do?
- It is the core of the alerting system.
- Receives status information from the aircraft systems and displays details visual alerts on the MFDs, PFD and LGCU (Landing Gear Control Unit).
- Incorporated into the Mission Computer (MC)
What does the AMU do?
Provides the required audio alerts for warnings and cautions, as well as for a variety of other flight conditions.
What does the DWP do?
- Operates independently of the MC and provides a backup for the EICAS.
- Only displays most important alerts for the systems that it receives status information
When does the landing gear display EICAS alerts?
When landing gear is retracted during an approach.
When does the landing gear display local alerts?
When it’s not in the selected position.
What occurs when the MC has failed?
- Attention getters flash
- DWP takes over aural alerts
Does SFD and EMD operate independently of the EICAS and DWP? When are these alerts important?
- Yes.
- Important if mission computer fails
What components use status data to generate alerts?
- SFD and EMD
- EICAS
- LGCU
- DWP
- AMU
- FMS
Where are alerts recorded?
Health and Usage Monitoring System and PMM
How is the MC powered?
From mission bus which is from BATT BUS when MC/HUD switch is on.
How is the right MFD powered?
From MISSION BUS
When is power to the LH MFD only allowed?
Once the GEN 1 BUS comes online
How are DWP and the LGCU powered?
By the BATT BUS
What are aircrew alerts provided primarily by?
- Flashing of the attention getters
- Audio alerts from the Audio Management Unit (AMU)
- Captions on the Dedicated Warning Panel (DWP)
- Captions shown in the alert area and WARN page of the MFD - generated by EICAS.
In addition, where are local alerts provided?
- SFD
- PFD
- EMD
- MFD SYS pages
- LGCU
- FMS
What is the priority order of alert captions on MFD/DWP?
- Red Warnings (MFD and DWP)
- Amber Cautions (MFD and DWP)
- Red Advisories (MFD)
- Amber Advisories (MFD)
- Grey Advisories (MFD)
- Green Status Messages (DWP)
What do Red Warnings indicate? What must the pilot do once a red warning is activated?
- Severe malfunctions, dangerous situations or conditions that may lead to the aircraft departing from intended flight conditions
- Pilot must carry out the appropriate procedure immediately.
What do Amber cautions indicate?
- Indicate the existence of a precautionary situation or condition
- When an amber caution is activated, the pilot must carry out the appropriate procedure in a timely manner as other cockpit priorities allow.
What do Red Advisory status messages indicate?
- Higher priority than amber alerts
- Limited to autopilot.
What are Amber advisory status messages?
That a system or flight maneuver has been reached that the pilot should be aware of.
What are Grey advisory messages?
- Provide additional status information
2. Indicate the failure of specified monitoring systems normally available through the MC.
What are Green status messages?
Displayed on DWP only and indicate the operation of certain systems.
