Located north of Muscadet Sevre et Maine AOC and is the most inland area of Muscadet.
Situated around the town of Ancenis
Vines are grown on steep slopes of schist or granite
These wines tend to be a leaner example of the Muscadet wines.

A

This is a specific area of pays Nantais
Located south of Muscadet Sevre et Maine AOC, closest to the coast.
Vines are grown on sandy, stony soils.
Wines tend to be more supple and ripe.

Tell me about Muscadet Sevre et Maine AOC?

A

This is the most recognised AOC of Pays Nantais.
It is home to 77% of Muscadet’s vines.
Vines are densely planted in low hills of various soil types.
The main soils consist of gneiss, granite & Schist.

What is Sur Lie?

A

Sur lie is a vinification process which leaves the wine in contact with its fine lees (dead yeat cells) for an extended peroid of time.

What does Sur Lie aging do to the wine?

A

Sur Lie aging helps develop more texture with in the wine, giving it a richer body and fuller flavours.
(bready, yeasty notes)
sometimes imparts slight carbonation in the wine (known in Muscadet as a slight prickle)

Wines must be aged on their fine lees over winter and then bottled between 1st march and 30th November the year following harvest.
