Patterns of Drainage Flashcards
What is drainage?
It’s how water flows in an area.
If an area is well-drained it…
will attract settlement.
If an area is badly drained it…
might have a chaotic system of rivers and streams, bogs or marshland, and therefore little settlement.
What is dendritic drainage?
They’re the most common form of drainage system and combine many tributary streams before joining the main river.
What is trellis drainage?
As a river flows, smaller tributaries feed into it from the steep slopes on the sides of mountains. These tributaries enter the main river at an angle line close to a right angle, creating a drainage system that looks like a trellis.
What is deranged drainage?
In a deranged drainage system, there is no clear pattern to the rivers.
