Pattern Of Inheritance Flashcards
What is law of segregation?
All ograisms that make gametes will have one gene copy
What is a Phenotype?
The physical characteristics of a trait
What is a genotype?
The alleles of a given gene
Ex. Aa, AA, aa
What is mendels ratio for Phenotype if both are hertozygous in both parents?
3:1
What is a test cross
A cross between a recessive parent and a unknown genotype parent
What’s a monohybird cross?
A cross between a single trait of inheritance
What is a dihybrid cross?
A cross between two bursts of inheritance
What is mendelians phenotype ratio for Dihybird crosses if both parents are hertozygous for two traits?
9:3:3:1
What is a X-linked trait?
Genes/traits found on the x chromeosome
In X-linked traits, can males and females be carriers?
No. Only female becuase males have one x chromosome that decides their faith
What is true breeding?
Homozygous genotype
What is incomplete Dominance?
A pattern of inheritance where Phenotype is show in a blend
What is Codominance?
A inheritance pattern where both alleles are completely expressed in hetrozygous
Ex. Cross between white and brown cow I result in the cow being both white and brown
What are the possible genotypes for blood type a.
IAIA or IAi
What possible genotypes are there for blood type B
IBIB or IBi
What possible genotypes are there for blood type O
ii
What possible genotypes are there for blood type AB?
IAIB
What is AB blood
The universal recipient
What is type O blood?
The universal donor
What are polymeric traits?
A range/variety of phenotypes influenced by multiple alleles
What is a pedigree?
A visual ogran that shows patterns of inheritance of traits in a family of several generations
How are pedigree useful?
Can help determine the probability that a genetic disorder is passed down
How do yoy know if a pedigree has a dominant pattern?
- every generation has an affected person
- all affted offspring have an affted parent
- two aeffted parents have unaffected offspring
How do you know if a pedigree has a resscive pattern?
- all affected offspring have two unaffected parents
- the trait skips a generation, or doesn’t appear in every generation
