Dorsal Recumbent
lies on back, knees bent, soles on bed
Fowlers Position
patient in back lying position with the head of the bed elevated at varying degrees
low = 30 deg
med = 45-60 deg
high = 90 deg
Genu-pectoral
on knees, buttock in the air, thighs straight, chest/head on the table
Lithotomy
back lying, buttock at edge of table/bed, legs in stirrups or at the edge of bed/table
Prone
lies on stomach with head turned
Side Lying Knee Chest
on the side with knees flexed to the chest
used when administering an enema
Sims position
side lying, upper leg flexed, lower leg straight
Supine
Flat on back
Trendelenberg Position
foot of bed is elevated, head of the bed is down in a sharp slant
known as the “Shock Position”
