pathophysiology Flashcards
1
Q
asthma
A
type 1 hypersensitivity reaction where mast cells release histamine and inflammatory mediators leading to chronic inflammation, airway oedema, mucous production and bronchoconstriction
2
Q
why lower oxygen targets in copd
A
used to a chronic state of hypercapnia meaning that the respiratory drive is based only off of hyperaemia. If give too much oxygen they lose their hypoxic drive so reparation is compromised
3
Q
why does appendix pain start periumbilical then migrate to rif
A
Visceral peritoneum has no somatic innervation so felt at the dermatome - T10
As disease progresses, parietal peritoneum becomes affected which has somatic innervation so able to be localised
