Adhesive capsulitis and massage modifications
Inflammation of shoulder and its capsule; shoulder eventually becomes stiff or frozen
Modified: move, compress, elevate (MCE). compression and elevation helps control swelling and won’t interfere with inflammatory process
Baker cyst and massage modifications
An accumulation of synovial fluid behind the knee; can be an accumulation of synovial fluid within the normal bursae or separate cystic structure
Modified: avoid the affected area or use gentle massage techniques; extra soft, bolsters behind the knee for a supine client
Bursitis and massage modifications
Information of bursa; movement becomes uncomfortable and impaired
Modified: adjust and position the client for comfort
Dislocations & subluxations and massage modifications
Dislocation - temporary displacement of bones within a joint with complete loss of contact between articulating surfaces
Subluxation - partial loss of contact between two articulating surfaces in a joint
Fractures and massage modifications
Any disruption or break in the continuity of bone
Treatment: local contraindication under area is healed
Ganglion cyst and massage treatments
Pouch like structure filled with synovial fluid

Generalized term to describe disorders affecting the jaw, it’s musculature or both; common causes our physical and psychosocial stress

When a ligament is torn or stretched beyond its normal capacity; a joint is forced into an unnatural or unstable position

Used to describe OA of the spine (also called spinal OA); most commonly affects the neck and lower back; usually caused by aging
