What is prepatellar bursitis?
Inflammation of the bursa located between the patella and the skin over the knee.
Is prepatellar bursitis common in males or females?
Males
How is this caused?
Repetitive kneeling (housemaid's knee) Trauma Co-morbidity (esp. gout, pseudo gout, OA, RA
What are some signs and symptoms of prepatellar bursitis?
Tenderness over patella, swelling, erythema, decreased flexion,
crepitus.
What is Infrapatellar bursitis also known as?
Clergy-man’s knee
What is Infrapatellar bursitis?
Inflammation of the bursa surrounding the patellar ligament.
What could be possible causes of Infrapatellar bursitis?
Closely associated with work involving hard surfaces (carpet laying, plumbing).
Not as prevalent as other types of knee
What are some signs and symptoms of Infrapatellar bursitis?
- Pain and swelling located just inferior to the patella.
- Pain at the end of range of flexion and extension.
What conditions could the pain from Infrapatellar bursitis be similar to?
Pain has been compared with Jumper’s knee and patellar tendinitis.
