Route of transmission
A
Direct or indirect contact with faeces

Key physical symptoms
A
Depression Vomiting Anorexia Profuse, violent haemorrhagic diarrhoea - loose, bulky, possibly blood Dehydration (often cause of death)

Diagnosis
A
History ELISA test (detect antibodies in blood)

Possible treatment options
A
Isolation
Barrier nursing
Antibiotics for secondary infections and fluid therapy (dehydration)

Prevention
A
Vaccination of breeding females and puppies

A
Incubation period = 4-7 days
Virus can survive externally for 6 months
Increased incidence in puppies and especially GSDs, Rottweilers and Doberman breeds
