Parts Of Cell. Lesson 2 Flashcards
Fluid portion of the cell found outside the nucleus
Cytoplasm
Contains all the cells DNA and makes proteins and other important molecules
Nucleus
Carry the cells genetic information
Chromosomes
Stores materials like water, salts, carbohydrates, and proteins
Vacuoles
specialized structure that performs important cellular functions within a eukaryotic cell
Organelles
What is something that all cells contain ?
DNA
Protein filaments that give eukaryotic cells their shape. Helps transport materials between different parts of the cell. Helps the cell maintain its shape.
Cytoskeleton
Threadlike structures made up of a protein called actin. forms networks that supports the cell and helps the cell move.
Microfilaments
Hollow structures made up of proteins called tubulins. Maintains shape of cell and is important in cell division.
Microtubulies
Located near the nucleus and helps organize cell division. Formed from tubulins.
Centrioles
Small particles of RNA and protein found throughout the cytoplasm. Place where proteins are assembled. Produces proteins by following coded instructions from DNA.
Ribosomes
Cell membrane system inside cell where lipid components and other materials of the cell are assembled and exported from the cell.
Endoplasmic reticulum
Modifies, sorts, and packages the proteins and other materials from the endoplasmic reticulum to store in the cell or release it out of the cell.
Golgi apparatus
Captures energy for, sunlight and converts it to food that contain chemical energy. (Photosynthesis)
Chloroplasts
Converts chemical energy stored in food into compounds more convenient to the cell
Mitochondria
