parts of a microscope Flashcards
Connects the eyepiece to the objective lenses.
Tube
Supports the tube and connects it to the base
Arm
The lens at the top that you look through, usually 10x or 15x power.
Eyepiece lens
A steady light source (110 volts) used in place of a mirror.
Illuminator
The flat platform where you place your slides and specimen
Stage
Hold the slides in place
Stage clips
Holds two or more objective lenses and can be rotated to change power.
Revolving Nosepiece or Turret
carries the optical parts in the upper part of the microscope.
Head
The microscope’s support and carries microscopic illuminators.
Base
Carries the eyepiece just above the objective lens
Eyepiece Tube
a hole on the microscope stage, allows transmitted light from the source reach the stage.
Aperture
Lenses that collect and focus light from the illuminator into the specimen.
Condenser
also known as the iris.
• found under the stage of the microscope
• controls the amount of light that reaches the specimen.
Diaphragm
moves condenser up or down, controlling the focus of light on the specimen.
Condenser Focus Knob
• found in High-quality microscopes
• makes the condenser to be movable and allows very high magnification of above 400X.
