Partial Quiz 1 Science Flashcards
SCIENTIFIC METHOD: STEP 1, DESCRIBE OBSERVE
Observation. gathering knowledge from the outside world based on facts, NOT inferences.
SCIENTIFIC METHOD: STEP 2, DESCRIBE QUESTION
Question: make a question as specific as possible, it should tell what you are trying to discover.
SCIENTIFIC METHOD: STEP 3, DESCRIBE HYPOTHESIS
Hypothesis. testable statement. i.e. “If [I do this], then [this] will happen.”
SCIENTIFIC METHOD: STEP 4, DESCRIBE EXPERIMENT
Experiment: Test your hypothesis
WHAT ARE THE THREE VARIABLES
independent variable, dependent variable and controlled
SCIENTIFIC METHOD Independent variable
The one you change (experimental)
SCIENTIFIC METHOD controlled variable and control group
everything that stays the same and the control group is to reduce the probability of the experiment being of chance
SCIENTIFIC METHOD Dependent variable
the one you measure (response)
SCIENTIFIC METHOD: STEP 5, DESCRIBE COLLECT AND ANALYZE DATA
Collect & Analyze: collect measurements and analyze them.
what are saturated lipids?
- derived from animal sources such as meat, eggs, but also plant based things.
- divided opinion on wether it is harmful or beneficial
what are trans fats?
- used to extend the shelf life of processed food
- no longer recognized as safe by the FDA
what are the unsaturated fats?
- derived from vegetable and plants
- compromised of monosaturated fats (avocados, olives, and nuts) and polyunsaturated fats (sesame oil)
omega 3 fatty acids.
biomolecules energy per gram
carbs:4kcal/gram
protein:4kcal/gram
lipids:9kcal/gram
functions of carbohydrate
quick and short term energy to the body, structure to organisms (ladybug), cell to cell recognition.
functions of lipids
energy reserve, make up cell membranes, regulate body temp, hormone precusors.
