What are pronouns?
def. They stand in for other words such as nouns.
eg.,
- Emma > Her
- Zach > He
- Log/Dog > It
What are personal pronouns?
Personal pronouns are pronouns that are associated primarily with a particular grammatical person – first person, second person, or third person.
What are possessive pronouns?
def. a pronoun that we use to show possession of something. Sometimes acts like a noun or an adjective.
e.g.,
Noun - This is my book.
Adjective - That book is mine.
What are reflexive pronouns?
def. A pronoun that reflects to its subject/noun.
e.g.,
- I saw myself in the mirror.
- [this is the wrong one] Roderick saw me in the mirror.
- [this is the correct one.] Roderick saw himself in the mirror.
How to not get confused when using me or myself?
What are relative pronouns?
def. They link independent and dependent clauses together.
e.g.,
- The man who sold the world is coming by on Tuesday.
What are subjects?
Does a thing.
What are objects?
has stuff done to it.
What are subject and object pronouns?
def. Pronouns that acts like a subject or an object.
e.g.,
- She - Subject
- Her - Object
What are person pronouns?
def. Pronouns distinguishing me, you, and everybody else. (stay in your lane!)
e.g.,
1st person pronouns - me, us, I, and we.
2nd person pronouns - you
3rd person pronouns - he, she, they, everybody, it, nothing, and etc. “everything that is neither me and you”
What are pronoun numbers?
def. singular and plural types of pronouns.
e.g.,
- Singular - 1. me
- Plural - 1. us
What are indefinite pronouns?
def. Pronouns that are not definite/specific and can be use as subjects and objects.
e.g.,
- “Yes please! I’d love some.”
- “Yes, I like either of them.”
- “No, I don’t like neither of them.”
- “I like both of them.”
What are emphatic pronouns?
def. Intensifies or emphasize a statement.
e.g.,
- “I’ll do it myself.”
- “She’ll do it herself.”
- “The king himself.”
