Wrist neutral, elbow extended, forearm supinated, scapula protracted.
What muscle can lead to an inverted foot?
Tibialis posterior
What gait compensation may occur due to a 20 degree flexion contracture at the knee?
Hip hiking to clear the leg
What are the appropriate interventions for mgmt. of heterotropic ossification?
Maintaining available range of motion, avoiding “vigorous” stretching, and achieving and maintaining “optimal wheelchair positioning.”
What are the immediate results of exercise on the body?
Increased O2 consumption,
heart rate increases,
systolic BP increases 10mmHg/1 MET,
diastolic remains fairly constant with no more increase than 10mmHg from starting value.
Nerve root compression causes what?
Sensory impairments in a dermatomal pattern
Intermittent claudication is:
A vascular problem that causes pain, but no sensory or motor loss
Classic signs of peripheral neuropathy?
A stocking distribution of sensory impairment and distal/peripheral loss of motor function
Stage III ulcer appears to have red granulation tissue, no eschar, no odor, and minimal serosanguineous drainage.
Best Option?
Hydrocolloids handle minimal to moderate exudate in noninfected wounds.
What augments an insulin injection for Type II DM?
Exercise - vasodilatation by increasing skin blood flow. This would deliver the insulin more rapidly
BMI categories?
Underweight: < 18.5
Normal weight: 18.5 - 24.9
Overweight: 25 - 29.9
Obese: ≥ 30
Manual glides at hip?
Inferior - increases hip flexion, posterior capsule
Anterior - increases ER
Posterior - increases IR
What is the “Walky-Talky” test?
Introduction of a secondary task (conversation) may interfere with performance of a primary task (walking). Individuals who must devote extra attention to walking are unable to perform the two tasks simultaneously
Activity levels for children with myelomeningocele:
Thoracic–level - Standing in parapodium.
L1–L2 - walk short distances in the home with KAFO
L3–L4 - community ambulation with KAFO
L4–L5 - Walking in the home and community with AFO
The lower the lesion the better the ability to ambulate.
What do you do when you see V fib?
V fib is a medical emergency. Medical attention should be sought immediately, not delayed for 5 minutes.
