Q

Two types of plants

A
Vascular
Have water transport system
Bring water up from the soil through the plant
Non-Vascular
ex. mosses
Absorb water across their surface

Q

What are types of growth?

A
PRIMARY
Indeterminate
keeps growing as long as the plant lives
Determinant growth
certain plants will only grow a certain size, fruits seeds

Q

What are meristematic tissues?

A

Self-replicating,
once finished dividing turn into other cells,
1. Apical meristem
contains melismatic tissue (tips of roots and shoots)
primary growth
2. lateral meristems
secondary growth (wider)
Types: 1, 2 vascular tissues (gives rise to secondary vascular tissues, involved in transport of fluids up/down)
3. Cork cambium
beneath epidermis
replaces epidermis with woody tissue

Q

What is protective dermal tissue?

A

Epidermis, has waxes on the surface, on top of waxes - cutin
Cutin and waxes together - cuticle
prevents infection, desiccation
One layer thick
contains myoplast (responsible for storage of starch)
