Part 1 - Prokaryotic cell division Flashcards
1
Q
What are the steps of prokaryotic cell division?
A
- DNA is attached to cell membrane
- DNA replicates
- Newly synthesized DNA attaches to cell membrane
- Membrane growth between the two attachment points moves the DNA molecules apart
- New cell membrane and cell wall material deposited between the DNA molecules
- The result of binary fission: two daughter cels, each identical to the original.
2
Q
Do prokaryotic cells definitely separate?
A
Not necessarily, they might stay as a chain, or divide forming two cells.
3
Q
What happens to the cell wall during the elongation of prokaryotic cell?
A
It becomes elastic to allow for the stretching of the cell
