part 4 Flashcards
how are synapses formed
formed by the membranes of a presynaptic neuron and a postsynaptic neuron which may be separated by a synaptic cleft(chem synapse)
how does transmission of nerve impulse take place
when the impulse reaches the terminal inside the synaptic knob, there are synaptic vesicles. there are Ca+ outside which comes in and takes the synaptic vesicles till the end causing exocytosis.(chem synapse)
what does synaptic vesicles contain
they have certain chemicals inside them called neurotransmitters(chem synapse)
electrical synapse
faster than chemical synapse. the membranes lie close to each other.
structure of our human brain
inside the skull, the brain is covered by cranial meninges consisting of an outer layer : 1. Dura mater
- Arachnoid(middle layer)
- Pia mater(innermost layer)
brain is divided into 3 parts what are their names?
- Forebrain
- Midbrain
- Hindbrain
forebrain is divided into 3 parts what their names?
- Cerebrum
- Thalamus
- Hypothalamus
Cerebrum has two sides
Left cerebral hemisphere and right cerebral hemisphere which stays connected by a nerve fibre called corpus collosum
