part 1 Flashcards
parts of nervous system
Central nervous system (includes brain and the spinal cord) and PNS (includes all the sensory and motor nerves)
sympathetic neural system
works under emergency conditions of our body which includes the 3 f- fright, flight and fight
sns leads to
pupil dilation, heart beats faster, bronchioles dilate, sweat glands stimulates secretion, liver converts glycogen to glucose, uterus vaginal contraction, digestive system decreases
what is the structural and functional unit of neural system
neurons which are composed of three major parts dendrites, cell body and axon
difference between dendrite and axon
dendrites are 0-many,they have tapering ends, it carries impulses towards the cell body whereas axons are unbranched and long and only one, it carries impulses against the cell body
neuron: multipolar
axon: 1 and dendrite: several. They are found in the grey matter of brain(cerebral cortex)
neuron: bipolar
axon: 1 and dendrite: 1. They are found in the retina of eyes, olfactory epithelium, cochlear and vestibular ganglia.
unipolar
axon: 1 and dendrite : none. They are found in the early embryos
pseudounipolar
axon: 1 and dendrite: 1. they are found in the dorsal root ganglia of spinal nerves
