Requirements to operate below mimimum heights
1 VMC
2 essential crew/ patients only
3 PIC satisfied area clear of Obs prior to descent
4 if VMC is lost, must climb 1000ft AGL
5 operate PC2 or higher except at medical transport operating site
6 at medical transport operating site, conduct ops IAW opsman
7 mimimise ops below minimum height unless medical reason exists and safe to do so
8 essential ops only and at speeds that minimise OEI risks
9 by night, must be NVIS op
What is additional fuel?
Fuel required after an engine failure to:
1 fly to alternate, and
2 orbit aerodrome at 1500’ abv elev at ISA, and
3 app and land
What is contingency fuel?
For unforeseen factors. Not less than the greater of:
1 10% of trip fuel
2 holding 1500’ abv planned Dest for 5mins at ISA
What is destination alternate fuel?
Fuel required to do following:
A missed app from dest
B climb to cruise alt
C flight to dest
D descent to app point
E approach
F land at alt
What does the final reserve fuel consist of?
Fuel remaining in tank after
IFR 30mins at holding speed, 1500’, ISA
VFR 20mins at range speed, 1500’, ISA

Part 138 - SAR or Sapol ops
1 - be an NVIS operation
2 - 2 x NVIS equipped crew
3 x 1 x pilot steerable search light
