Fatal Injury
Any injury which results in death within 30 days of the accident
Serious Injury
Any injury which is sustained by a person in an accident and that
1) requires hospitalization for more than 48 hours commencing within 7 days from the date of the injury was received; or
2) results in fracture of any bone (except simple fractures of fingers, toes, or noes); or
3) involves lacerations which cause severe hemorrhages, nerve, muscle, or tendon damage; or
4) involves any internal organ; or
5) involves second- or third-degree burns, or any burns affecting more than 5 percent of the body surface; or
6) involves verified exposure to infectious substances or injurious radiation

What exemptions may be made regarding access to aircraft involved in an accident
1) Bodies and livestock maybe removed
2) May move aircraft or wreckage to protect the aircraft, mail, and cargo from further damage
3) Flight data recorders, cockpit voice recorders and ELTs may be disconnected or deactivated
4) Prevent obstruction to public or air navigation
What limits must be adhered to regarding movement of aircaft, wreckage, mail or cargo from an accident
1) Must move only as far as necessary
2) Items must be kept in distinct areas (associated with area of aircraft where items were removed)
3) Must document location of moved items to greatest extent possible
