P - Lengthy process
DP - Bill must go through 8 stages, so errors should be removed
WDP - Complies with ROL as the law is certain and ascertainable
P - Democratically elected
DP - HOC is democratic, law is for the people by the people, public like the fact that we have a say in the legislative process
WDP - HOC has ultimate power over HOL, can overrule them with the Parliament Act 1911 & 1949
P - Green paper allows public to voice their opinions on the law
DP - Public feels like their opinion is valued, opinions will be considered by Parliament
WDP - Public can also contact their MP directly with any issues, feel inclusive as a result
P - Broad policy allows others to make law
DP - Parliament can give power to theor other bodies to make law on their behalf - DL
WDP - Law is written by the most appropriate bodies, gov ministers/local authorities
Conflicts with SOP
P - Lack of clarity
DP - Use of obscure language makes the law hard ot understand, often judges have to use SI to interpret law
WDP - Opens law up to interpretation, different judges have different outcomes, judicial creativity, conflicts with ROL
Lawyers
P - Time consuming
DP - Takes 18 months for Act of Parliament to be written, long time for area of law to be clarified
WDP - Often only gov’s ideas go through Parliament, public who voted for other political parties are not represented
P - Unrepresentative
DP - HOL made up of law lords who are generally privately educated, white, males
WDP - Long hours Parliament has to work, discriminates against women with children who have to be home in the evening
Ethnic minorities are not represented
P - Lack of accessibility
DP - Many acts of parliament, public struggles to find them all, know which ones are in power and which ones aren’t
WDP - An issue could be covered in multiple acts, can be confusing for lay people, obstructs A2J
VWDP - All laws are online, so are more accessible
