PARENT COMPLAINT Flashcards
As the HT of the faculty, I would use my restorative justice approach…
Using the guiding questions such as ‘what’s happened’ to listen to the parent. I would demonstrate my active listening by taking notes, in order to cultivate an environment where the parent feels heard and respected, and that I am taking their concerns seriously. I would then…
I would then inform…
Senior Executive. I recognise as a HT, we work as a team, and that I am not always the knowledge holder. Within this discussion with executive I would discuss how to approach the communication with this specific teacher, and be open to any guidance or insight into the teacher and their practice.

Or the parent so I could ensure that I take a proactive approach in handling this situation, but also to ensure that we get the best outcome. And so that the focus is on the students learning in our classrooms.
In regards to this situation, where the teacher is not planning their lessons, and they’re not up to date with their compliance paperwork… I would be…
I would be to be proactive in the staffroom as HT. I would initiate fortnightly compliance meetings to discuss where teachers are up to regarding their programming, and to determine if any further supports need to be put into place. Discuss how they are ensuring that they’re meeting the national teaching standards - know your students and how they learn - ensuring they are differentiating and teaching lessons that are guided by NESA guidelines and the department.
I would measure the improvement of the staff member through…
… timely and realistic goals. If there was to be no visible improvement, I would further consult executive staff and establish informal monitoring, and then formal support.
It is through a restorative lens that I will lead this staff member…
to restore harm and demonstrate resilience, as well as further fostering an environment where staff feel supported and cared for. Thereby meeting goals as set out in SD2: Building Resilience and a Sense of Belonging.
Address concerns as a faculty by…
…embedding practices into faculty.
