Parasympathetic Ganglia Flashcards
Preganglionic nerve fibers
White ramus communicate
Originate in brainstem
Originate in sacral spinal segments of spinal cord
Specifically s3-s4
Parasympathetic ganglion fibers
Innervate just one organ
Innervate ratio 3:1
1 ganglion 1-3 organs
Parasympathetic ganglia
Located far away from spinal cord or brainstem
Near or even in effector organs
Postganglionic nerve fibers
Gray ramus communicate
Leave the peripheral ganglion
On their way to Innervate smooth muscle/gland
Traveling in the mixed spinal nerve
Parasympathetic ganglia system called
Craniosacral system
The parasympathetic fibers of the ans exit the cns in the
Craniosacral region specifically
Some originate in the brainstem- 3,7,9,10
Other originate in sacral spinal segments
Specifically s2-s4
To control urogential and sexual function
What does this mean about autonomic functions of the cranial nerves
It means that they can only receive parasympathetic regulation
Which means these cranks nerves can only be engaged for rest/restore/ relaxation functions
Cranial nerve only receive parasympathetic innervation from ANS specifically
Mostly for glands- salvation, digestion, tears, mucous, esophagus
Cranial provide assistance for
Sensation of sight and taste
