Q

In work Poverty + Citation

A
  • Shucksmith 2018 found that in-work poverty is pretty common and people who have jobs face poverty - this can be due to the agricultural labour within rural areas and the nature of them being low-paid jobs.
  • Also noted that there is a lack of training and facilities for upskilling to try and improve people’s income levels
  • Also a high cost of living in rural areas with people having to travel further to work for example

Q

Rural poverty - Hidden from View + Citations

A

-Poverty will be screened out culturally (Cloke et al 1995)
- People find it hard to reconcile with people in the beautiful idealised countryside and are faced with issues like poverty.
- Because of the spatial manifestation of rural areas - the poverty being scattered across extensive areas makes it less visible compared to cities but doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist (Milbourne, 2014)
