What is papilloedema
A
swelling of the optic disc secondary to increased cranial pressure

What should be suspected if there is bilateral papilloedema
A
any patient with bilateral disc swelling should be suspected of having a space occupying lesion till proven otherwise

What are the causes of papilloedema
A
hypertension tumour/space occupying lesion obstruction to CSF over-production of CSF decreased absorption of CSF idiopathic intracranial hypertension

What does a disc look like in chronic disc swelling
A
no longer swollen but pale and atrophic

what does chronic disc swelling cause
A
loss of vision
blindness
