anxiety disorder characterised by recurrent episodes of panic attacks
diagnostic features:PANICS
-Panic attacks
-Acute onset,peaks within minutes,Anticipatory anxiety,later agoraphobia
- Not predictable
-Idiopathic ( no trigger )
- Catastrophic symptoms
-Spontaneous remission aft 20 min
symptoms of panic attack:PANICS
Palpitation
Abdominal distress- nausea,vomiting
Numbness n tingling
Impending doom
Choking,Chills,chest tightness
Sweating,shortness of breath,shaking (trembling)
define anticipatory anxiety
corcern,worry or anxiety experienced by individual in btwn panic attacks about the next attack. later dev agoraphobia becoz of this
define agoraphobia
fear of going to places or being in a situation fr which escape may not be possible or help may not be available + avoidance of such situations

- do u experience anxiety attack that comes n goes (episodic)
2.how does each attack begin (sudden/gradual)
- can the attacks be predicted
4.are the attacks related to any situation or event or no reason?
5.how long does it take to peak
6.symptoms of each attack?
7.how long each attack lasts?
8.how does the attack go off?
9.freq of attack initailly and now
10.how are u in between attacks?worried abt next attack?
11.aft getting attacks, can u go to public places alone?if no,why?

common medical conditions that mimic panic disorder
*Coronary heart disease/arrthymias/ Mitral Valve prolapse syndrome. *Thyrotoxicosis
*Hypoglycaemia
*Seizure disorder(aura phase)
*Pheochromocytoma *Sympathomimetic drugs (noradrenergic)
*Benzodiazepines/ Alcohol withdrawal
Koro
acute panic attacks where patient feels penis shrinking n getting absorbed into his body.penis ascends to throat,gets stuck,chokes the patient n he dies.
