What are the causes of pancreatitis?

- Gallstones

- Hyperlipidaemia
- ERCP
- Drugs (furosemide, thiazide diuretics)

Amylase - which is usually at least 3x upper limit of normal
Give two examples of textbook examination signs which may be present in acute pancreatitis
- Cullen’s sign (periumbilical bruising/discolouration)
- Grey-Turner’s sign (flank bruising/discolouration)
Which scoring system is used to assess the severity of pancreatitis?
Glasgow score
Describe the management of acute pancreatitis
Supportive management:
- Treat underlying cause if possible, e.g. gallstones
- NBM
- IV fluids
- Analgesia
What is the most common cause of chronic pancreatitis?
Alcohol
