What are the causes of pancreatitis?

A

I GET SMASHED:

  • Idiopathic
  • Gallstones
  • Ethanol
  • Trauma
  • Steroids
  • Mumps
  • Autoimmune
  • Scorpion sting
  • Hyperlipidaemia
  • ERCP
  • Drugs (furosemide, thiazide diuretics)

The most important ones to remember are gallstones, alcohol and ERCP
