what is acute pancreatitis
acute inflammation of pancreas, spillage of pancreatic enzymes into surrounding tissue
causes of pancreatitis
gallbladder disease, etoh, drug reactions, cancer, hypertriglyceridemia
what is cullens sign
discolouration of umbilical area due to intraperitoneal hemorrhage
what is grey/turners sign
flank discolouration indicative of necrotising pancreatitis
complications of acute pancreatitis?
pseudocyst (next to pancreas, resolves in weeks, risk of perforation, treat via drain)
abscess (infected cyst, sepsis risk, drainage treatment, ab pain w high fever w elevated WBC)
nursing interventions acute pancreatitis
vitals, FBC, pain, reduce pancreatic enzymes via NGT/NPO/antacids/PPIs, surgery to drain, semi fowler
clinical manifestations chronic pancreatitis
episodes of ab pain with recurrent attacks, LUQ, heaving burning pain not relieved by food, weight loss, jaundice, constipation, dark urine
