PAN Disrupter Flashcards
What are the minimum lengths of shock tube required to function the PAN?
3 feet, 6 feet with electric initiators (to protect the equipment)
Which shell should be chosen to disrupt a soft package suspected of containing NG based dynamite?
Popper at 2 inches
Which cartridge should be chosen to remove the end caps from a pipe with externally threaded end caps?
Avon
What is the wait time for a misfire when using a PAN Disrupter?
There is no wait time due to the mechanical action
What are the safety zones for the PAN Disrupter?
150 feet to the rear and the distance a rifled shotgun slug can travel to the front
What is the functioning time of the PAN’s breach?
500 microseconds or 1/2 millisecond
Why would you go downrange and change a general disruption shot?
You determine the general shot would activate a victim actuated device
What is the standoff for a Popper round?
2-6” for sensitive explosives, 2 inch to 3 feet for soft targets
What is the standoff for Medium Velocity Blank (BK40)?
2 inch to 3 feet
Why is the standoff for slugs 36 inches?
Slugs are super sonic and produce a precursor shock, breathed by the air inside the barrel
What is another name for the Avon round?
Frangible
How much water is placed in the PAN?
140 ml or 3/4 inch from the top
How far should the firing pin protrude from the breach?
1/16 inch
How far should you back the breach off radially?
1/8 inch
How often should you clean the PAN?
After 15 shots or when it is stored for the day
When firing multiple shots, which should arrive first?
The kill shot must arrive before the opening shot
What is the overall intended purpose of the PAN Disrupter?
To gain access, expose, and disrupt IEDs.
What do use the pusher on?
Frank’s Mom
Lethal limits for PAN
Water - lethal at 575-1650 feet per second at several yards
Slug - lethal at at least the distance of of a shotgun firing a rifled slug
Rear safety distance for PAN
150 ft
PAN can travel 100’ to the rear once fired, plus 50’ for safety
Characteristics of PAN
EMR and static resistant
What is the PAN designed to do
Designed to access, espose, and disrupt
What amount of PSI is needed for the PAN to actuate the spring retained firing pin?
How much shock tube is needed to achieve the needed PSI requirement?
The PAN needs 300 PSI to actuate the firing pin.
At least 3 ft of shock tube is needed to create 300 PSI
Approximate velocities when using the short barrel PAN versus the regular PAN
Velocities increase:
86-90% for POPPER
60-108% for BK40
What is the round, stand-off, and angle for an externally threaded pipe while using the PAN
Stand-off: 3-18” at 1/4” from end cap
Angle: 10-17 degrees
Round: nitro Turkey
What round, angle, and stand-off is used for internally threaded pipes
Round: Bk90 using the splitter chisel
Angle: 45-60 degrees
Stand-off: 10” from collar
Normal water load for the PAN
140ml of water with 3/8” displaced for placement of red cap
What distance must the firing pin travel forward for the PAN to operate
1/16”
How often should you clean the PAN
After 15 shots or prior to storage
What type of tool is the PAN
The PAN is an indirect explosion tool
What round is needed for a nitroglycerin (dynamite) based explosive when using the PAN
BK20
