when does palliation begin in children
begins when illness is diagnosed and continues regardless of treatment directed at disease
reasons of inadequate pain control
- reluctance of patient to report pain
- fear of medication and side effect
- want to be brave
what is the purpose of inhaled morphine?
- relief of SOB
- ->increase exercise tolerance
- ->decrease anxiety by decreasing SOB
how to administer morphine sulphate?
start off at lower dosage, then see at what dosage that its helping the patient
starting out: 5ml of morphine and 3 ml of saline, Q2-4 , prn

if doesnt help, increase the dosage by 5 ml

nebuizing it is better because it bypass the first bypass mechanism
what are the side effect of morphine
- contraindicated if patient is allergy to opiates
