What is tripoding?
A sign on difficulty breathing; putting arms behind body whilst in bed to help air enter lungs
what position can you put a patient into to aid their breathing?
Sit them upright; provides the diaphragm with more space to move up/down to let in more air
what is pre-emptive analgesia?
provision of analgesia before an event, such as surgery, which is known to be a cause for pain
what is multimodal analgesia
the administration of two or more analgesic drugs which act by targetting different receptors along the pain pathway. these drugs can be administered by the same or different route(s).
what does uncontrollable acute pain result in?
chronic pain
what is visceral pain?
pain related to the interal organs of the body ; feels like an ache or pressure
what is somatic pain?
pain felt in the skin, muscles, joints, and bones.
what is neuropathical pain?
damage and or injury to the nerves
