Q

what is proprioception

A

help us to keep our balance. some of these receptors are general and others specialised. a sense that allows us to perceive/detect our location, movement, amd action of parts of the body. Encompasses a complex of sensations such as joint position/movement, muscle force, and effort.

Q

examples of proprioeception

A

inner ear proprioceptors; detect head position

somatic proprioceptors; detect muscle contraction, joint position, etc.

6
Q

where is proprioeception information sent

A

this sensory information is sent to the somatosensory area of the cerebreal cortex and cerebellum; the brain constantly monitors and adjusts posture.

Q

ear drum/tympanic membrane

A

seperate outter ear from middle ear. when sound waves reach this area, it causes the tympanic mmebrane to vibrate and these vibrations are passed on to the ossicles of the middle ear, the inner ear

Q

semi-circular canals

A

three tiny fluid-filled tubes within the inner ear that aid balance of person. when the head moves, this liquid sloshes around and moves the tiny hair lining these canals

Q

vestibular nerve

A

Located within the semi-circular canals and are primarily responsible for maintaining body balance & eye movements by transmitting sensory info from the inner ear to the brain

Cochlea

A

a hallow, spiral-shaped bone located in the inner ear, which plays a key role in hearing

Q

chochlear nerve

A

also known as the acoustic nerve and is a sensory nerve which transfers auditory info from the cochlea to the brain

15
Q

auditory tube (esutachain tube also)

A

canal which connetcs the nasopharynx to the middle ear. this tube keeps the ears healthy by draining fluid, equalising pressure and protecting middle ear form pathogens

16
Q

endolymph fluid

A

also known as scarpra fluid, this is clear and founding within the membranous of the labyrinth of inner ear. aids hearing and abalnce movement.

17
Q

perilymph fluid

A

ECF locaed in the cochlea of the inner ear

18
Q

ampullae

A

located at the end of semi-circular canals and here tiny balance receptors called crista are located.

19
Q

basilar membrane

A

mean chemical element of the inner which lines this area

20
Q

organ of corti

A

organ of the inner ear located within the cochlea and which tranduces auditory signals
