What are the 4 types of pain?
acute, chronic, referred, central (neuropathic)
Define acute pain
normal, predicted physiological response
Define chronic pain
lasts for greater than 6 months; continues after stimulus or damage has been removed
Define referred pain
experienced at a point other than the origin; follows a specific pattern
Define central neuropathic pain
initiated or caused by a primary lesion or dysfunction of the CNS; delayed onset from time of injury (wks, months, yrs)
difficult to describe and can migrate

0-10
Visual Analog Scale
Point to a spot on a continuous line
Pieces of Hurt Scale
each chip represents equal pieces of hurt
Faces pain scale
original or revised (with eyebrows)
